Spencer Badu Makes Powerful Footwear Debut in Bold HOKA Collaboration

HOKA has teamed up with acclaimed Canadian-Ghanaian designer Spencer Badu to unveil a unique take on its Elevon X sneaker, fusing high-performance design with cultural storytelling. Known for his contemporary, uniform-inspired fashion line, Badu steps into the world of footwear with a release that’s not only stylish, but also deeply personal. This debut reflects Badu’s own exploration of identity, cultural heritage, and the human journey—both physical and emotional.

Designing his first shoe presented a creative challenge, one Badu approached by embedding his story into every element. The collaboration centers on a bold yellow version of the Elevon X, infused with symbols and design motifs that honor Badu’s Ghanaian roots. Among these are the Cowrie shell—once a form of currency in Ghana—and two powerful Adinkra symbols: Fawohodie, representing freedom, and Nyame Dua, a symbol of protection and spiritual connection. These details transform the sneaker into a wearable narrative of heritage and self-discovery.

The launch is further elevated by a short film produced by Badu himself. Filmed in both Ghana and Toronto, the piece weaves together bustling urban energy with moments of solitude, offering viewers an artistic window into Badu’s vision and inspiration. It’s a collaboration that blends performance, fashion, and meaning.

The Spencer Badu x HOKA Elevon X is now available globally through HOKA and select retailers, priced at €210.
