PlayStation Plus Gears Up for a Big Shift on June 17
A notable date is looming on the PlayStation calendar—Tuesday, June 17 is shaping up to be a day of both gains and losses for PlayStation Plus subscribers, particularly those on the Extra and Premium plans. Following a string of lackluster updates and unexpected removals that have left users frustrated, June might finally signal a turn in the right direction.
Sony typically announces the lineup of PlayStation Plus Essential games at the end of the previous month, with this month’s expected to be revealed on Wednesday, May 28. But for those on higher tiers, the major update comes mid-June. On Wednesday, June 11, Sony is anticipated to unveil the full slate of Extra and Premium titles set to arrive the following Tuesday.
One confirmed standout is FBC: Firebreak, which will be available on day one via PS Plus Extra. Developed by Remedy Entertainment, this co-op shooter represents a bold departure from the studio’s usual single-player focus. Set within the mysterious Oldest House—also the setting of Control—Firebreak offers players a new way to engage with the universe, this time through a team-based experience.
However, the celebration comes with caveats. June 17 will also see the departure of several well-regarded titles, including Monster Hunter Rise, Inscryption, and Rogue Legacy 2, among others. While not as dramatic as previous purges, the loss of these favorites could dampen the excitement unless the incoming lineup impresses.
PlayStation Plus seems poised for a high-stakes refresh. Whether this marks a true comeback or just another bump in the road remains to be seen, but June 17 is clearly a date worth marking for fans of Sony’s subscription service.
