Netflix Becomes the New Nest for Sesame Street’s Colorful Crew

The iconic residents of Sesame Street are moving to a new neighborhood—this time on Netflix. In a major shift for children’s television, Netflix has reached a deal to stream new episodes of the beloved series, starting with its upcoming 56th season. The agreement also includes access to a rich archive of 90 hours of past episodes, giving young viewers a chance to enjoy both the latest adventures and timeless classics featuring Elmo, Cookie Monster, Big Bird, and the rest of the gang.

This move comes after Warner Bros. Discovery announced its decision to end its partnership with Sesame Workshop. Previously, new episodes premiered on HBO beginning in 2016, later migrating to the HBO Max platform. Now, the curtain closes on that chapter as Netflix prepares to become the next home for one of the longest-running children’s programs in history.

Even with the transition to a new streaming giant, Sesame Street won’t leave its roots behind. Sesame Workshop confirmed that PBS and PBS Kids will continue to air new episodes on the same day they premiere on Netflix. For over half a century, PBS has been a staple outlet for the show, and that tradition will proudly continue.

The new deal underscores Sesame Workshop’s commitment to blending educational values with broad accessibility. By partnering with both a major streaming platform and a public broadcaster, the organization ensures that the show’s mission—to help children grow smarter, stronger, and kinder—will reach families everywhere, across formats and income levels.
